🎤 DID YOU KNOW? 🎤
With the release of the film Michael, here are some fascinating stories about the King of Pop, Michael Jackson. 👑🎶
BEN
The theme from the 1972 horror film became Michael’s first No. 1 hit and even won a Golden Globe when he was just 14 years old. It was originally offered to Donny Osmond.
SHAKE YOUR BODY (DOWN TO THE GROUND)
This track showed the first signs of a more grown-up Michael. It marked a turning point as the Jacksons moved beyond Motown and took more creative control on the 1978 Destiny album.
BAD
This song was first imagined as a duet between Michael Jackson and Prince. That collaboration never came together, so Michael took the song in his own direction.
THRILLER
Michael had known Vincent Price since he was 11 and believed he had the perfect voice to close out the song. The groundbreaking 14-minute video cost more than $500,000 and changed music television forever.
REMEMBER THE TIME
Rumors have long suggested the song may have been inspired by Debbie Rowe, the nurse Michael later married and the mother of two of his children.
I JUST CAN’T STOP LOVING YOU
Siedah Garrett sang the duet with Michael, though many listeners did not realize it at the time. On tour, that vocal part was performed by backup singer Sheryl Crow, who later became a star herself.
DIRTY DIANA
Despite speculation, the song was not about Diana Ross or Princess Diana, both of whom were friends of Michael. It was actually inspired by a persistent groupie.
SMOOTH CRIMINAL
If you have ever taken CPR, you probably recognize the line “Annie, are you okay?” It comes from Resusci Anne, the training dummy used in first-aid classes.
