Art, science, genius and absurdity collide when MSU Denver presents Steve Martin’s Picasso at the Lapin Agile this November at the King Center on the Auraria Campus.
Set in a Paris café in 1904, the comedy imagines an unlikely encounter between two young men who are about to change the world: Pablo Picasso and Albert Einstein.
Neither has yet produced the work that will make him legendary. As the pair trade ideas about creativity, science, art, fame, love and the future, the patrons of the Lapin Agile join a funny and increasingly philosophical conversation about what it means to be a genius — and what the new century might hold.
Written by comedian, actor, author and musician Steve Martin, Picasso at the Lapin Agile mixes intellectual comedy with Martin’s trademark silliness. The play premiered at Chicago’s Steppenwolf Theatre Company in 1993 and became a long-running Off-Broadway comedy.
MSU Denver’s production is directed by Stacey D’Angelo and will be performed in the intimate MSU Denver Studio Theatre inside the King Center on the Auraria Campus.
Please note: No children under age 5 will be admitted, and there is no late seating. Advance ticket purchase is recommended.
